Character Development

(These are two characters I plan to use in a comic)

I originally had no clear idea of the time period or location for the characters, and only had a simple idea of the plot, I started with some simple ideas of before and after the plot happens to show how they change as characters. Their initial designs are supposed to contrast one another, with one being in pajamas all day and the other in tight-fitting formal clothing, this would foreshadow the conflict between the two later. Their dynamic would change slightly as the story developed more, but this mostly remains true even in the current designs.

The second iteration of these characters solidified the fish monster design , however as I was working on them I realised the human designs felt bland and empty, and decided to properly solidify the characters' location and time period before continuing.

After choosing the setting of vaguely 1980-1990s in a small coastal town, I decided to make them both have alternative fashion styles as the characters not fitting in is a very important part of the story. I sketched up a very simple idea of how the two might look. As the two were becoming blue themed and red themed I gave Conway a slightly darker complexion to suit his warm colour scheme better.

I created mood boards of the styles to make them somewhat accurate to the setting.

The characters still need some more updating, such as Conway missing his makeup and jewelry, and Robbie will likely need his patches to be more simple to make him easier to draw repetitively , however this is where they are at currently.
